Title: Heritage Open Days
Location: Forest Wide
Description: FOREST FREE FOR ALL
Who says history is just about grand houses and imposing castles?
As part of the national Heritage Open Days 2012 the Forest of Dean opens its doors and welcomes all for the long weekend of the 6th-9th September 2012.
Why not join in the celebration of the Forest’s fantastic history and culture by enjoying free access to venues and events specially arranged for the weekend and that are often closed to the public or which normally charge for admission?
The organisers, Coleford Area MCTI Partnership, are delighted to announce that 27 different free activities will be taking place in the Forest of Dean.
Free of charge and literally on people’s doorstep, Heritage Open Days is an event for everyone, whatever their background, age and ability. For example there will be opportunities to:
§ explore the Deputy Gaveller’s office
§ follow in the Deputy Surveyor’s footsteps at Whitemead Park
§ delve into the dungeons of St Briavels Castle
§ wonder at Christian and pagan worship
§ peep behind the steam at Norchard and the GWR museum
§ come and play at the Dean Heritage Centre’s Forest Fayre
§ blow your own trumpet with Pillowell Silver Band.
§ taste and tour at Mayhill Brewery
